A series of events along the route has been announced for the annual Táin March 2013 which takes place from 7th June to 9th June this year. It's shaping up to be a great event with big events in Ardee, Dundalk and Carlingford over 3 days.
Partway walkers, who wish to join the Táin March for a few kilometres don't need to register in advance but the "warriors" who are walking the whole route need to register in advance.
Experienced walkers are invited to register their interest in completing the entire 63 km walk, which includes some off-road and mountainous sections.
The full walking route has been announced for the Táin March 2013, over three days in mid-June. The entire route from Ardee to carlingford will be followed by a select cohort of experienced walkers (wholeway walkers).
The Táin March Chariot is a great example of teamwork and community spirit in action. The chariot is based on illustrations of ancient chariots an on information on construction methods used by the Celts and other races. It took a long time and a great deal of searching to find a chasis and wheels that were suitable and of the correct size.
The Táin 2013 celebrations are on their way! Failte Ireland and Dundalk Town Council are the main sponsors for this year’s events which start with the arrival of the historic Táin March in on Friday 7th June.
Dressing up makes the Táin March more fun and more memorable. It's easy to make realistic-looking Celtic costumes. Enthusiasm and creativity are more important than historical accuracy!
